Expectations
|
Expectations: I view the first three sessions to be introductory and evaluative, intended to establish if we can work together, and ,if so, how best to achieve a favorable outcome in treatment. Provided that during the initial interview, we agree to mutual goals to improve your situation and/or sense of well-being, the following commitment should exist: I shall exercise my professional judgment about what will be the preferred treatment for your best interest; and you shall make a good-faith effort to fulfill these treatment recommendations. If it becomes apparent that the benefit of the therapy I offer is not useful to you, I reserve the right to make appropriate referrals for you to receive treatment elsewhere, and discontinue treatment. Psychotherapy is a blend of science and art. There is no guarantee claimed that it will always be effective. However, if expectations and goals are clearly discussed, a favorable outcome will likely result.
